NMU’s Pietila, Kastamo named soccer All-americans

Pietila as a midfelder; Kastamo as a Defender

MARQUETTE, Mich. – NMU women’s soccer student-athletes Brooke Pietila and Hannah Kastamo have been announced as D2CCA First Team All-Americans, the Division Two Conference Commissioner’s Association (D2CCA) announced today.

Pietila and Kastamo became the first two D2CCA All-Americans and the sixth and seventh All-Americans across all distinctions in NMU soccer history.

Brooke earned her accolade as a midfielder, and Hannah earned her spot as a defender. They are the only two student-athletes from the GLIAC to land on any team.

Brooke continues to etch her name into the NMU women’s soccer record book after her historic final season, adding a First-Team All-America honor to go along with her plethora of achievements from the season: including GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year, All-GLIAC First Team, GLIAC All-Tournament Team, D2CCA First-Team All-Region, CSC Academic All-District, and becoming the program leader in All-time career assists (30), multi-assist games (5), and career games played (97) and started (95).

It was a truly special year for Hannah, as the defender went from an All-GLIAC Honorable Mention as a sophomore to becoming a D2CCA First Team All-American as a junior. Kastamo set career highs in almost every statistical category, and now adds an All-America honor to go with her GLIAC Defender of the Year, All-GLIAC First Team, GLIAC All-Tournament Team, D2CCA First-Team All-Region, and CSC Academic All-District honors.

Both players became eligible for All-America status thanks to receiving All-Region first-team selections from the D2CCA.
