With last winter's abnormally warm weather behind us, downhill skiers are hoping for more normal winter conditions this season. Marquette Mountain has been making snow since late November. The ski resort has been able to lay down a decent base with its snowmaking equipment. The goal is to maintain the man-made snow as long as possible with the hopes of adding more natural snow later in the week. According to Marquette Mountain's General Manager, Kaet Johnson the resort is scheduled to open on the 14th of December. Which historically has been a typical opening date for the resort.

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – With last winter’s abnormally warm weather behind us, downhill skiers are hoping for more normal winter conditions this season.
Marquette Mountain has been making snow since late November. The ski resort has been able to lay down a decent base with its snowmaking equipment.
The goal is to maintain the man-made snow as long as possible with the hopes of adding more natural snow later in the week.
According to Marquette Mountain’s General Manager, Kaet Johnson the resort is scheduled to open on the 14th of December. Which historically has been a typical opening date for the resort.

“The last few seasons that I’ve been here, we’ve opened either the first or second weekend of December, outside of last year, last year was an anomaly. So we’re on pace right now to open when we have been opening, and I’d say the last five years,” said Johnson.

Johnson says as long as we get freezing temps during the overnight hours, snowmaking can continue.
The snowmaking machines have been running almost non-stop for 2 weeks.
