KINGSFORD, Mich. (WZMQ) – A man is dead and a child injured after a snowmobile crash near Kingsford Tuesday evening.
It happened around 5:30 p.m. near Knight Ave. and South Park Ave. Michigan State Police say a 43-year-old man was driving a snowmobile with a 9-year-old passenger. The snowmobile hit a tree, ejecting both the driver and passenger. Neither were wearing helmets.
The driver received life-threatening injuries and was transported to Marshfield Medical Center – Dickinson and later transported to a Green Bay hospital where he ultimately died of his injuries. The child received minor injuries in the crash.
Speed and loss of control appear to factors in crash, according to MSP. The crash remains under investigation.
MSP was assisted by the Iron Mountain Police Department, Kingsford Public Safety Department, Breitung Township Fire, and Integrity EMS.
