ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The City of Escanaba officially kicked off the holiday season Tuesday evening.
The community gathered at the Center Court to light the city’s Christmas tree, which is decorated with ornaments made by third graders from Escanaba Upper Elementary School.
The City Band started the evening with a concert of Christmas songs. Santa Claus took photos with families while the DDA handed out cocoa and cookies. Just before the three was lit, the Players de Noc took the stage to perform “O Christmas Tree.” They sang other carols as attendees rang in the season.
“We usually do this every year, just to get the spirit of Christmas and the time of year and such,” said Players de Noc performer Kelly Pepin.
Escanaba also got a head start on holiday shopping Tuesday, with more than 20 businesses offering sales and specials for Black Friday on Tuesday. Click here to read that story.
