GLADSTONE, Mich. (WZMQ) – This holiday season, Delta County residents can honor their loved ones through a special light display.
The Gladstone-Rapid River Kiwanis Club is preparing to light its annual Tree of Honor and Remembrance, located at the Gladstone Beach House flagpole. Now through December 2, lights are available to purchase for $5 each or three for $10.
Community members can purchase a light to celebrate a person in their life or in memory of someone who has passed away. The funds raised will help the Kiwanis Club support local youth through scholarships, robotics, and other programs.
“Youth, I think, is incredibly important because as we age out, we need to pass along community service and a sense of giving back,” said Club President Alan Stotz. “We have key clubs in both Gladstone and Rapid River that are very active, so we’re pleased with that but it goes down even further than that to the elementary schools. I think we need to pass along charity, if you will, to those that come behind us.”
Kiwanis members will light the Tree of Honor and Remembrance on Sunday, December 8, at 5:30 p.m. It will light up Van Cleve Park through January 6.
Forms to purchase lights can be found at Gladstone City Hall, the Gladstone Public Library, and Pat’s Foods. Click here to download a printable version of the form, which can be mailed to Gladstone-Rapid River Kiwanis, PO Box 22, Gladstone, MI 49837.
The Gladstone-Rapid River Kiwanis Club is open to welcoming new members. The group meets every Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Gladstone. For more information on joining the Kiwanis, click here.
