HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech men’s basketball senior guard Pete Calcaterra has been named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 1, the conference office announced on Monday.
This marks the first Player of the Week honor of Calcaterra’s career.
The Boyne City, Michigan, native, helped Michigan Tech open the season 2-0 at the NCAA D2 Midwest Regional Tip-Off at the Justagame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. He was the leading scorer in the season-opening win against USML (72-57), scoring a career-high 23 points, shooting 8-of-11 from the field (72.7 percent) while also going seven-of-nine from the charity stripe (77.8 percent), recording a team-leading nine rebounds.
Calcaterra recorded his second 20-point game on Saturday, helping Michigan Tech outscore Maryville 47-37 in the second half for an 88-84 victory. His 20 points came on six-of-seven from the field (85.7 percent) and nine-of-13 from the free-throw line, with 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.
Calcaterra and the men’s basketball team will take their undefeated start to Minnesota, where they will play Winona State on Saturday and Concordia-St. Paul on Sunday.
