LSSU Men’s Basketball can’t survive the Lake Erie Storm

Perkins scores 30 and adds 12 rebounds for Lakers

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Lake Superior State (LSSU) men’s basketball team (2-1) faced their first setback of the season against the Lake Erie Storm (1-0) by a final score of 77-70 on Friday.

The Storm struck first in force, opening the game on a 13-0 run, but Tyson Edmondson (Ypsilanti, Mich.) and Adam Harakow (Edmonton, Alta.) were able to put the Lakers on the board and halt the run. Kingsley Perkins (Ypsilanti, Mich.) would then get going inside, scoring seven unanswered points by himself to get the Lakers back within five. However, despite a three ball from Harakow, Lake Erie found themselves leading 43-30 at the halftime break.

Perkins continued to set the tone for the Lakers to open the second half, scoring the first ten points of the half in the paint before Devin Womack (Ypsilanti, Mich.) got into the action with a three to pull within six. The Lakers kept chipping away at the lead until eventually drawing even at 68-68 after a layup from Hunter Soper (Lexington, Mich.). Both teams would then trade points, but the Storm were ultimately able to close out the game at the free throw line.

Despite the loss, Perkins had his best outing of the season, stuffing the stat sheet with a career-best 30-point, 12-rebound double-double to go along with 4 steals and a pair of blocks. Edmondson and Harakow also ended the day in double figures with 14 and 13 points, respectively, and Womack posted a game-high 8 assists.

The Lakers will look to bounce back when they take on the Northwood Timberwolves in their second game of the GLIAC/G-MAC Crossover on Saturday, Nov. 9 with tipoff scheduled for 5 p.m.
