Garrett leads the way with a runner-up result
INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Northern Michigan women’s wrestling team opened its regular season at the Simpson College Luther Hill Invitational, with four Wildcats placing in the top-5 in their respective weight classes and the team collecting 73.5 points.
Kailyn Garrett finished in 2nd place at 235 for 19 team points. Garrett picked up three victories in a row, all by fall, before falling in the championship match by tech fall.
Alissa Caltagirone accrued 15 points for Northern in the 145 weight class, finishing in 4th place. Caltagirone was victorious by fall in three matchups before falling in the third place bout.
Sophia Bassino also added 15 points for Northern at 160 for another 4th place finish. She went 3-2 in her matches, with two wins by fall and another by tech fall.
Clarissa Wangen also placed inside the top-5 at 180, totaling 12.0 points. Wangen went 2-2 in her contests with one victory by fall.
Sara Schroder (1.5), Sharon Leon (3.0), Mickaela Keane (2.5), Ruby Joseph (3.0), and Andrea Zunun (2.5) all collected points as well.
