Smith leads nine kills
ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan volleyball team returned to GLIAC play on the road on Friday evening, falling to No. 13 Grand Valley State in straight sets, 13-25, 26-28, and 16-25.
Jacqueline Smith posted nine kills while Meghan Meyer and Allie Barlow each contributed a pair of aces. Defensively, Caylie Barlage led the way with eight digs.
The Wildcats hit .091 while GVSU was .448.
The Lakers jumped ahead early in the first set and NMU was never able to get back in it, falling 25-13. The Lakers hit .679 in the opening frame with zero attacking errors. Northern responded with a battle in set two, going back and forth. NMU led 24-21, but the Lakers came through late to push the set to extra points and ultimately won 28-26. The Lakers again never trailed in the final set, securing the match with a 25-16 win in the third.
Northern fell to 13-6, 7-2 with the defeat while the Lakers improved to 17-1, 8-1.
