DETROIT, Mich. (WZMQ) – WZMQ 19 News will carry a special simulcast of the second U.S. Senate candidate debate between former U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R) and U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D) on Monday, Oct. 14. WXYZ-TV is hosting the live, commercial-free debate at 7 p.m. EDT at its studio in Southfield.
The debate will be moderated by Editorial Director Chuck Stokes, 7 News Detroit Anchor Carolyn Clifford and 7 News Detroit Anchor Alicia Smith.
Rogers and Slotkin are each hoping to take the U.S. Senate seat that will be vacated when Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D) steps down. Stabenow has endorsed Slotkin for the position.
Slotkin is currently the U.S. congresswoman for Michigan’s 7th district, a position she’s held since 2023. She was previously the U.S. congresswoman for Michigan’s 8th district from 2019 to 2023 but ran, and won, the 7th district seat after redistricting in 2022.
Rogers was previously the U.S. congressman for Michigan’s 8th district from 2001 to 2015. He previously served in Michigan’s senate.
