Gordon, Chase Pietila, LSSU’s Milburn gets spots on Preseason Team

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech sophomore Isaac Gordon was named the CCHA Preseason Player of the Year as voted on by the league’s coaches. He was tied with Lucas Wahlin from St. Thomas and Connor Milburn from Lake Superior State for the honor. Gordon and sophomore defenseman Chase Pietila were named to both the coaches and the media’s Preseason All-CCHA Team.

Gordon was the 2024 CCHA Rookie of the Year and was named to the All-CCHA Second Team and CCHA All-Rookie Team. He led the Huskies with 36 points and 18 goals last season, leading the league in points and ranking second in goals. Gordon was twice named Rookie of the Month and the Rookie of the Week four times. He attended the Columbus Blue Jackets NHL Development Camp in the summer.

Pietila led the Huskies with 19 assists last season while scoring three goals. He ranked fourth in the CCHA and eighth nationally amongst freshmen defensemen in assists. He also led the CCHA and NCAA freshmen with 60 penalty minutes and received a pair of CCHA Weekly honors. Pietila was picked by Pittsburgh in the fourth round of the 2024 NHL Draft with the 111th selection and attended Penguins NHL Development Camp.

Media members can contact the league office if they did not receive an invite to the event.

The CCHA officially drops the puck on year three of the reconfigured league on Saturday, Oct. 7. Seven CCHA teams will be in action across opening weekend, with conference play getting underway with a pair of series on October 27.

The CCHA officially drops the puck on year four of the reconfigured league on Friday, Oct. 4. All nine CCHA teams will be in action across opening weekend, with conference play getting underway on October 25. Due to Augustana playing only 16 conference games, the 2024-25 league standings will be determined by points percentage.

Fans can stream all CCHA games live and on-demand, on their home televisions, computers, tablets, and mobile devices via Midco Sports Plus. The app is available on mobile/tablet apps (iOS and Android), connected TV device apps (AppleTV, FireTV and Roku) and a web-based browser interface.
