ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – A U.P. organization that takes veterans on the trip of a lifetime is looking for a way to recognize the women who served.
The Upper Peninsula Honor Flight takes veterans to Washington, D.C. for a day to see the monuments built in their honor. The U.P. Honor Flight is seeking applicants for an all-women flight, which would be in addition to the regular spring and fall flights.
The flight would be open to female veterans from any branch and service period. Those who have been on a previous Honor Flight are also welcome to apply.
“A Mid-Michigan Honor Flight did one this past May, and it went over very well,” said U.P. Honor Flight President Scott Knauf. “Our vice president was on that flight, and she came back and told our board about it. That’s when our board started saying, ‘Maybe we should see if there’s enough people here in the Upper Peninsula.’ If we get enough interest, we will start planning it.”
Knauf hopes to schedule the all-woman Honor Flight for May of 2025. Anyone interested in applying for the all-woman or regular U.P. Honor Flight can learn more at uphonorflight.org or call (906) 280-2871.
