MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Marquette County has a new undersheriff — but residents may find him a familiar face.
Sheriff Greg Zyburt appointed Captain Lowell Larson as the new undersheriff. Larson has been with the department since 1999.
Larson has served seven years with the Corrections Division, six years as a detective, and currently serves as Captain of the Road Patrol Division, which also oversees court security, detectives, Special Operations, Technical Rescue, and the Dive Team and Search and Rescue Divisions. He spent ten years as a Search and Rescue volunteer and has performed as a field training officer and medical examiner investigator. Larson is also trained as a firearms instructor and armorer.
In a press release, Sheriff Zyburt said, “Captain Larson brings extensive knowledge of all department operations, and I am confident he will continue to provide remarkable service to the citizens of Marquette County in his new role.”
“Wearing all those hats has given me a good cross section of what the sheriff’s office is from the ground level up,” said Larson. “So I’m hoping with that experience it will be very fruitful in making my transition very easy.”
The Sheriff’s Office has not yet announced who will be replacing Larson as road patrol captain, but should in the near future.
