ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – As always, the U.P. State Fair is full of horses, pigs, goats, and other animals, but there’s another one many may not have seen at a fair before.
Yoda the tortoise is the star of a new children’s book. Yoda’s Yooper Adventure tells the story of how he escaped from his Schoolcraft County home last winter, making his way back by braving the weather, staying safe from potential predators, and making friends along the way.
This weekend, fairgoers have the chance to meet, pet, and learn more about the African spurred tortoise.
“A lot of people think that he can’t feel his shell, and he can definitely feel his shell,” said Yoda’s owner, Sarahjean Adolphus. “That’s one of the biggest things people get to learn, that he feels his shell, his spine is here so it grows with him, and that they have their own personality, and they are fast. They are not slow! He’s enjoying his time here and he wants to meet everybody.”
Yoda will be at the U.P. State Fair through Sunday, August 18, near the goat and sheep barn. Yoda’s Yooper Adventure will also be available to order.
