IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – At the Dickinson County Board of Commissioners meeting, the Borderhounds Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club (LEMC) presented an $11,000 check to support the county’s Dive Rescue Team. The donation was the result of a successful fundraiser held last month at Lake Antoine Park.
During the presentation, the Borderhounds LEMC annual event organizer Chuck Lantz and the Borderhounds LEMC Treasurer, Jeremiah “Daktari” Jacobson, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the community, event sponsors, and county board members for their crucial support. Jacobson emphasized the significance of the donation, sharing his personal connection as a first responder for over 21 years.
“Myself being a first responder for over 21 years, dealing with drownings and things, and knowing for the longest time, the closest dive team was in Escanaba. And it would take a couple of hours just to get them mobilized and over here. This is allowing us to let the Dickinson County Dive team get their equipment so that we can get them in the water quicker to make it more of a rescue than a recovery,” Jacobson said.
He further highlighted the importance of the funds, noting, “I think it means a lot to the county. To outfit a diver, it’s $10,000, so you know they need this money to get all of their equipment and get in the water faster.”
The club also announced plans for another summer festival to support the rescue divers, asking board members to mark their calendars for June 14, 2025. “We got lots of stuff to announce later on, lots of surprises, but mark your calendars for June 14, 2025. We will be looking at our Facebook page throughout the year and telling WZMQ. We will be advertising about it, so look forward to a much bigger event,” he stated.
Jacobson concluded, “Tonight we were able to present a check to the Dickinson County Dive team for $11,000. This means a lot to us as a Borderhounds law enforcement motorcycle club. We are a group of guys that love giving back to the community, love what we do, love riding bikes, and we continue with these fundraisers to help give back to the community.”
