Rainbow concludes “Music Under the Stars” concert in Dickinson County

IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – Dickinson County’s summer “Music Under the Stars” concert ended on a magical note as a rainbow appeared, perfectly capping off the Dickinson County Community Chorus’s tribute to the late Tony Bennett through their presentation of The Great American Songbook.

The event captivated concertgoers, especially during the children’s choir’s moving rendition of a patriotic song under the Lake Antoine Park band shell. The crowd was visibly moved as the young voices sang “Let Freedom Ring,” adding to the evening’s emotional atmosphere.

The concert, led by Principal Conductor Crystal Hogan, centered on the impact of Alzheimer’s disease. Inspired by the healing power of music, Hogan curated a set list that included gospel, jazz, patriotic songs, and Broadway pieces. Her selection not only entertained, but also aimed to bring hope to those in the community affected by the disease.

The appearance of the rainbow seemed a fitting symbol of hope and remembrance for many in attendance, and was a particularly special moment for Hogan, who lost a sister to the disease. Beyond the music, the concert served a dual purpose: raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s research and supporting the county’s Lake Antoine Park.

The Dickinson County Community Chorus announced that practices for their Christmas concert would begin in September, leaving the community with much to look forward to.
