SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. (WZMQ) – UPDATE 7/10/24: Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit has clarified the charges Dumas is facing. He is charged with ten counts of child sexually abusive activity – aggravated, two counts of using a computer to commit a crime, and six counts of child sexually abusive material – aggravated possession.

Dumas faces 25 years in prison on the child sexually abusive activity charges, 10 years on the aggravated possession charges, and 20 years for the computer crime charges.

Original story 7/9/24:

A Sault Ste. Marie man is facing multiple child sex crime charges after investigators discovered he was viewing child pornography online.

The Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit says 21-year-old Jacob Tyler Dumas faces ten counts of child sexually abusive activity – aggravated possession and two counts of using a computer to commit a crime. He was arraigned on his charges in 91st District Court on July 2.

Dumas was arrested following an investigation that began when it was learned he was viewing files of child sexually abusive material on the internet. A search of his home resulted in digital evidence being seized.

If convicted, Dumas faces up to 25 years in prison for the child sexually abusive activity – aggravated possession charges and 20 years in prison for using a computer to commit a crime.

The MSP Computer Crimes Unit encourages parents to speak to their children and family members about safe use of the internet. There are many resources available to assist in keeping people safe online. The MSP ICAC Task Force provides a comprehensive list of resources on their website at http://www.michiganicac.com.

If you have information regarding possible child sexual exploitation, report it to the CyberTipline at http://www.missingkids.org/cybertipline.
