WELLS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, and Forsyth Fire and EMS responded to a report of a water emergency at Boney Falls Campground in Wells Township on Thursday.
According to a report from the Marquette County Sheriff’s office, three children and one adult woman were in distress in the water.
Before first responders arrived the three children were safely brought to shore by onlookers, but the woman was pulled out of the water unresponsive and later pronounced dead by emergency medical personnel.

On July 4, 2024 at approximately 7:45 PM, Deputies from the Marquette County Sheriffs Office were dispatched for a water rescue at the Boney Falls Campground, in Wells Township. It was reported that there were 3 children and I adult in the water in distress. While en route, Deputies were informed that the 3 children were safely brought to shore. It was reported that the adult, a 36-year-old female, was pulled from the water and was unresponsive. Deputies and medical personnel arrived on scene and performed life saving measures. The 36-year-old female was later pronounced deceased. The name of the victim will not be released at this time.
The Marquette County Sheriffs Office was assisted on scene by Forsyth Fire and EMS, UPHSMarquette EMS, and Guardian Flight.
