ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – A downtown business is helping the Escanaba City Band celebrate its 100th anniversary.
On Saturday, June 22, Leigh’s Garden Winery will host a “Toast to the City Band” community reception from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. During the celebration, the winery will unveil a specialty wine in honor of the band’s centennial anniversary.
“It is a dry red blend,” said Julie Lambert, owner and manager of Leigh’s Garden Winery. “It’s made with two grapes that are very well-received, and it’s the first time we’ve ever done this blend. I hope everyone enjoys it!”
Leigh’s Garden Winery only produced 100 bottles of the wine, and purchases are limited to two bottles per person. When she was approached about creating a wine dedicated to the band, Lambert says she was excited for the unique challenge.
“The City Band has been around for 100 years, which is pretty cool,” she said. “To help them celebrate, I just thought it was a great opportunity. Hopefully, it can go on for generations to come.”
Each bottle costs $24. The wine will be available to purchase during the “Toast to the City Band” reception and will remain on sale at the winery while supplies last. The reception is open to the public.
Leigh’s Garden Winery is located at 904 Ludington Street. Follow the Escanaba City Band on Facebook for updates on other celebrations scheduled throughout the summer.
