L’ANSE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Two deceased fishermen have been found after their boat capsized during the Keweenaw Bay Classic Fishing Tournament over the weekend.
The L’Anse Fire Department is starting a “Fill the Boot” campaign with many different businesses in the area accepting donations for the families of the victims. The Baraga County Federal Credit Union has also set up an account for the families and are accepting donations as well.
With how close-knit the community is, L’Anse Village Manager Bob LaFave isn’t surprised with the response of everyone trying to pitch in. “I think that’s really part of what makes L’Anse and Baraga County a really special place,” he said. “People care about each other here, and we try to be there for each other when something like this happens.”
Organizer of the fishing tournament, The Baraga County Next Gen Team, has started a GoFundMe page with a goal of raising $20,000. You can find it by clicking here.
