L’ANSE, Mich. (WZMQ) – UPDATE 8:20 p.m.: The two missing boaters’ bodies have been recovered from Lake Superior as well as the capsized boat.

Michigan State Police says the victims were found at a depth around 220 feet Monday afternoon.

MSP says families have been notified but no names will be released.

UPDATE 3:15 p.m.:

Search teams have continued their efforts to locate the two missing people in Lake Superior on Monday.

The Michigan State Police Marine Services Unit, local sheriff’s departments, and the U.S. Coast Guard have been searching in the area where the boat capsized on Saturday.

Some debris has been located, but the missing people and the boat have not yet been located.

No new information has been released at this time. WZMQ will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.

Baraga County Next Gen Team, which was the host of the fishing tournament taking place at the time of the incident, set up a GoFundMe for the families of the missing boaters. Anyone wishing to help can also donate to a bank account set up at Baraga County Federal Credit Union (906-524-6151) or any Superior National Bank location (866-482-0404) for “Two Fishermen’s Families.”

Two people are still missing after a boat capsized on Lake Superior off the shores of L’Anse Saturday afternoon.

Michigan State Police says the call came in around 12:15 p.m. for a capsized 21-foot boat in an area off of Second Sand Beach. It was reported that five people were in the boat at the time that it sank. Troopers from the Calumet Post responded with deputies from the Baraga County Sheriff’s Office.

A person in another boat near the area was able to rescue three people. As of 8:30 p.m., the other two people have still not been located.

MSP says it is still an active scene. The U.S. Coast Guard responded with a helicopter from Traverse City and a boat from USCG Station Portage. The Michigan State Police Marine Services Unit is also assisting.

No names have been released at this time.
