100+ Women Who Care donate $6,400 to Delta County Cancer Alliance

ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Tuesday, the Delta County 100+ Women Who Care made a charitable donation to a nonprofit helping those facing a cancer diagnosis.

The group selected the Delta County Cancer Alliance to receive its quarterly donation, presenting its president and volunteers with a check for $6,400.

The volunteer-run Delta County Cancer Alliance provides cancer patients with nutritional and hygiene products, mobility aids, wigs, and up to $800 a year in financial assistance. Alliance President Gayle DeShambo says the donation will mean so much to so many people.

“All of our clients are our neighbors, our friends, and our family members that live right here in Delta County,” she said. “To be able to have this money to be able to help them when they’re diagnosed with cancer and begin their journey of treatment is a gift. People can’t believe that we are able to do this, and it’s because of organizations like this, our business community, and all of the kind people of Delta County.”

The Delta County 100+ Women Who Care hosts quarterly meetings, where each member or team of members contributes $100 and nominates a 501(c)(3). The group then chooses one 501(c)(3) to receive the funds.

“Our group feels very passionate about our nonprofits in the area, so they’re getting more and more involved in the group,” said steering member Chris Tryan. “We’re just very lucky that so many women have come on board with our group, so we feel blessed.”

Since their first meeting last July, the Delta County 100+ Women Who Care have reached 64 members and given $19,980 to local nonprofits. The more women who join the group, the more funds can be donated to worthy causes throughout the year.

Women interested in becoming one of the 100+ Women Who Care can call or text Tryan at (906) 280-3219 or fellow steering member Samantha Griebel at (906) 241-6510. To learn more about the group, email deltaco100women@gmail.com or follow the Delta County 100+ Women Who Care Facebook page.

The Delta County Cancer Alliance always welcomes donations from the community. Those interested in supporting the organization can contact the office at (906) 786-0854.

The Delta County Cancer Alliance is open Monday through Friday from 1 – 4 p.m. Visit the nonprofit’s Facebook page for more information.
