IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – In a momentous occasion for local high school athletics, another standout athlete from Iron Mountain, Fulton Stroud, has solidified his future by signing a National Letter of Intent to wrestle for the Muskies at Lakeland University in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Stroud, a wrestling prodigy since the age of four, has been a prominent figure in both football and wrestling throughout his entire high school career at Iron Mountain.

Accomplishing an impressive record as a 4-time state qualifier, 2-time state runner-up, and U.P. champion, Stroud’s accolades speak volumes about his dedication and skill in the sport. Recently named to the Michigan Grappler Division 4 All-Senior Team alongside his teammate Alex Wilson, Stroud is poised to continue his success at the collegiate level.

Reflecting on his aspirations for college wrestling, Stroud expressed his determination to replicate his high school victories, aiming for national finals. He shared, “You know, just winning matches like I did in high school. [I’m] probably going to make it to the national finals. I’d assume, I don’t really know, but I’d assume. So yeah, I’m just looking forward to that.”

Elated about his decision to join Lakeland University, Stroud highlighted his connection with the school, citing friendships and admiration for the coaching staff. His own older brother, Parker Stroud, once wrestled for the very same college team. He remarked, “It feels pretty good. I decided on Lakeland because I’ve got a bunch of friends there. And like, I like the coach and stuff.”

Offering advice to underclassmen wrestlers, Stroud emphasized the importance of hard work and excellence, stating, “Just work hard, and just be good.”

In a heartfelt moment, Stroud extended shout-outs to several individuals who have supported him along his journey, including teammates, friends, and the local news station. He also revealed his academic ambitions, planning to pursue a degree in accounting.

“Yeah I want to shout out Brayden Walstrom, Jennifer Geneva, Jackie Saldana, Parker Stroud, Connor Owens, Katie Sheldon, Matthew Callovecchi, Alex Wilson, and you – WZMQ 19 News.”

Stroud’s signing ceremony was attended by his proud parents: mom Carrie Stroud and Father/coach Brandon Stroud, coaches Cory Mclaren and Derin Farragh, brother Parker Stroud (who also wrestled for Lakeland), and various members of the Iron Mountain community, including Athletic Director Brad Perry and friends. With his sights set on both athletic and academic success, Stroud is poised to make a significant impact at Lakeland University with more wrestling achievements.
