MARQUETTE, Mich, (WZMQ) – Yesterday, many businesses in the Westwood Mall received a notice from the Marquette Board of Light and Power (BLP) that their power would be shut off today due to missed payments from the mall’s owner the Kohan Retail Investment Group.
This comes after the power was shut off last month for six days for the same reason, and according to mall business owners this is the sixth such notice they have received in the last half-year.
The Kohan Group was able to settle with the BLP last night and the power and the mall remains on, but many business owners are still concerned about the persistent unreliability from the owner.
Scott Martin, the owner of Martin Sports, said the businesses at the mall want to see some major changes.
“I mean there’s 80 to 100 employees in the building that could just be without work again,” said Martin, “like what happened last month for six days, people didn’t have any income. What we really want to see, and I think I can speak for everyone when I say this, we want to see new owners.”
