ISHPEMING, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Ishpeming city-owned lot may be getting split into two parcels of land.

Ishpeming residents voiced their opinion tonight that the property at 429 E New York Street should be put up for public sale. The Marquette County Land Bank will begin investigating splitting the land into two separate parcels.

A neighbor of the property hopes to purchase a portion of the land to allow for a septic tank to be put in. The Land Bank is working with neighbors of the property and the Ishpeming attorney to determine the best course of action for the property which is vacant.

According to the Land Bank, the area could be used to build much needed housing.

“The main goal here is to build housing, we do have an opportunity to do that, the Land Bank has a track record of building homes in Ishpeming, I think they are quality they go to people that live here, that want to be here, I think there is something to be said for that,” remarked Antonio Adan, of the Marquette County Land Bank.

The Land Bank will make a presentation to the City Council on what it finds at an undetermined date.

The City Council voted tonight to begin offboarding public relations firm Siren Strategies from the city’s payroll. The city’s contract with the firm will run out at the end of the week.

The off-boarding process will last Until May 31st as the city transitions back to running its own communications.
