MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Westwood Mall is back open following 6 days of being closed for unpaid utility bills.
Around 5 p.m. Monday night the Marquette Board of Light and Power restored power to the mall allowing businesses to reopen. According to business owners, power was restored within 10 minutes of the delinquent utility bill being paid by the property owners, The Kohan Retail Investment Group.
Although the lights are back on, some business owners are still worried about what the future might hold.
“ It is a relief in a sense that I have been a business owner for 26 years, and I woke up last week thinking I was suddenly out of business, so that’s okay, but what happens in three weeks when the next power shut off happens? We have to keep people coming in between now and then,” remarked Scott Martin the Owner of Martin Sports in the Mall.
The mall will resume normal hours of operation. The mall is open everyday from 11a.m. to 7 p.m.
