MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Marquette Community Master Plan is moving towards the next step of being finalized.
Wednesday night, the planning commission held a special meeting where the contracted planning group presented an updated version of the plan. The focus of the plan includes making Marquette more walkable and accessible by expanding bike lanes and revitalizing vacant lots and buildings.
One proposal by the planners was to reimagine the site of the former Marquette Mall into a living and shopping space.
“I think its key that you be thoughtful when making an investment, that you do it for the residents, because the resident are the ones that are paying the taxes, they should be rewarded with amenities that they like and want,” said Russ Soyring, a planner for Beckett and Raeder, the company contracted to develop the Community Master Plan.
The next step for the master plan is to hold a public hearing with the planning commission for approval. The hope is to have the plan approved by spring.
