ISHPEMING, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Polar Roll may look a little different than former years, but the race will go on. Trail conditions for the Polar Roll may have seen a lack of snow, but that won’t stop this event from continuing.
“Don’t be disappointed by the conditions, every year is different,” said Todd Poquette, director of 906 Adventure Team. “Sometimes we have to much snow, this year we don’t have enough, so just show up and make the best of it.”
Coordinators have been keeping a watch on trails, making sure the conditions are still ridable with the melt the Upper Peninsula has been experiencing.
Soggy conditions have made it hard for trails to be maintained and there is no way to know what the trails may look like in the next week.
“The key is we have to stay off of the trail, we are at a point right now were there’s not even enough snow pack to run grooming machines, at least not sleds and drags” said Poquette. “So we are basically at a wait and see, what we have on the trail unless, we get more snow next week, is what we have to work with.”
Conditions for the Polar Roll Mass Start set for Saturday, Feb. 17 have been cleared and the trail will stay the same as previous year, but conditions for the Polar Roll Ultra, which begins Monday, Feb. 19, have yet to be assessed.
Poquette said that no matter the condition of the trail, the race will go on.
