IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Iron Hills Cycling Team, renowned for organizing the Millie Hill Enduro Race and the Lone Wolf Gravel Race in Dickinson County, is embracing a new challenge – the Shiver-Me-Timberstones Fat Tire Race. Despite the unexpected warm and rainy weather, the team, responsible for putting the county on the cycling map, remains undeterred.
Jon Bruen, the Iron Hills Cycling Team President, shares his enthusiasm, stating, “It’s going to be a good time either way; we’re still going to have a party going on at the clubhouse in Timberstone.” With just under 30 racers signed up, cyclists are gearing up to conquer a five-and-a-half-mile loop and an eleven-mile loop, with a snowshoe race scheduled later in the day.
“In a community-powered effort, Bruen expresses gratitude, “I would like to thank the Dickinson Trail Network for their grooming efforts on the course and then Pine Mountain Resort for letting us use the Timberstone Clubhouse, and then our sponsor, U.P. Sport and Spoke.”
The bike races kick off at 10 a.m. and noon central time tomorrow. Later, a snowshoe race will finish off the outdoor fun around 1:30 p.m. CST. Bruen encourages participation, noting, “With the warm temperatures and a partly cloudy forecast, it will still be a nice day to come out and enjoy a snowshoe hike around one of the nicest golf courses in America and/or enjoy some refreshments around the fire pit or on the deck.” The spirit of competition and community prevails despite the challenging conditions.
