EWEN, Mich. (WZMQ) – A 17-year-old girl was killed in a head-on crash with a semi-truck in Ontonagon County Thursday night.
The Michigan State Police- Wakefield Post says it happened around 8:35 p.m. on M-28 east of Ewen. MDOT alerts at the time indicate it happened near Choate Rd. It’s unknown at this time what led up to the crash.
The 17 year old was given medical treatment at the scene by SONCO Ambulance but ultimately died of her injuries. Police say the 42-year-old man driving the semi-truck did not require treatment.
Traffic was rerouted until the road was reopened shortly before 2 a.m. Friday.
The Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Department is leading the investigation with MSP assisting. Accident investigators from MSP Wakefield and MSP Calumet responded to the crash in addition to the MSP Accident Reconstructionist out of Marquette in order to help determine the cause of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
Responding agencies also included Michigan DNR conservation officers, Ontonagon County Medical Examiner’s Office, Bruce Crossing Fire Department, Ewen Fire Department, Ontonagon County Road Commission, Al’s Auto Towing, and Superior Services Towing.
