MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The winter storm this past weekend brought over a foot of snow to the upper peninsula much to the delight of Marquette Mountain.
According to mountain management the snowfall is helping to open trails not yet rideable. As of now the Mountain has the Snowfield Chair and the Tyro Paddle Tow Rope open. Currently their are 10 trails on the west side of the mountain open.
As WZMQ’s weather team has been forecasting, colder temperatures this week will help to maintain the amount of snow on the hill. Over the past few days Marquette Mountain’s operations crew has been able to produce a large amount of snow.
“We have probably been making snow for two weeks, we have had the [temperature] to do that, and then we had some help from mother nature, we have gotten quite a few runs open and are working on more,” remarked Kaet Johnson, the general manager at Marquette Mountain.
While the mountain does not have a specific date for opening the entire trail system it is hopeful to continue opening more trails soon.
