Recall of Delta County Commissioner Bob Barron will officially be on May ballot

ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The recall of a second Delta County Commissioner has been confirmed for the May 2024 election.

From mid-summer through early fall, the Delta County Citizens for Ethical Leadership circulated petitions calling for the removal of David Moyle, Bob Barron, and Robert Petersen from their positions on the County Board of Commissioners.

Circulators in Barron’s district, District #3, needed 1,001 signatures to get his recall on the ballot. On Monday, November 13, Delta County Clerk Nancy Przewrocki determined that 1,006 of the 1,235 signatures circulators submitted are valid.

“It’s a big weight off our shoulders to know that this part is done and we can move on,” said Sandra Sovey, who hosted a signature station at her business, Sandy’s Family Salon, during the circulation period. “I would like to say thank you to everybody that signed and collected signatures. Everybody did a great job, and we’ll see what happens in May.”

Sovey says the candidate planning to run for Barron’s seat is preparing to file the necessary paperwork.

Barron challenged many of the signatures submitted prior to Przewrocki’s decision on Monday. He says he will be discussing potential next steps with the clerk’s office in the coming days.

“There are different options that we can use, and we’ll have to decide if we want to use them or not,” said Barron. “We did put quite a lot of challenges in which we thought were pretty valid, but I’d like to find out what the criteria were that were used to reject those challenges. If we do end up having a recall election, it will show a lot of things that our public isn’t aware of right now. This is one of those situations where information isn’t available under the circumstances as they stand today, but I believe as we go forward, things will become a lot clearer.”

The recall of Commissioner Moyle will also appear on the May ballot. Signatures for Peteresen’s district are still being reviewed.
