MARQUETTE, Mich, (WZMQ) – An Upper Peninsula organization is shedding light on human trafficking and raising money to help survivors.

The Upper Peninsula Human Trafficking Task Force is partnering with Scared Beginnings to host, “a night of hope.”

Sacred Beginnings is Michigan’s first human trafficking survivor transitional program and is based in Grand Rapids.

The two organizations aim to open the Upper Peninsula’s very first shelter for survivors of human trafficking.

Tonight’s fundraiser not only raised money for the cause but was also a cry of hope.

“Each person has a sacred beginning,” said Upper Peninsula Human Trafficking Task Force President Stephanie Graef, “even if they in their life end up being wronged and assaulted.”

Sacred Beginnings Founder and President, and human trafficking survivor Leslie King, also had a hopeful message.

“These nights of hope is letting victims know, we’re here,” said King, “we’re coming, hold on, we’re coming.”

The Two Nights of Hope continues tomorrow night at the Continental Firehouse in Houghton.
