MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Marquette Breweries and businesses are rallying with the Marquette Rotary Club to continue efforts to end polio.
More than a dozen Marquette County bars and breweries participated in Pints for Polio Friday. Every pint of beer poured will raise 25 cents to help eradicate polio, and all the money raised will be matched by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Participating businesses and bars are: Blackrocks, the Delft Bistro, Kognision Brewery, 906 Sports Bar & Grill, Barrel + Beam, Drifa Brewing Company, Holiday Inn, Iron Bay, Jackson’s Pit, Kognition, Ore Dock Brewing Company, Up North Lodge, Vango’s and the Vierling.
Since the National Rotary Club’s first project in 1979, members have contributed more than $2.1 billion to the disease. Members of the Marquette chapter say it couldn’t happen without the incredibly supportive community.
“This event is kind of a local favorite. Last year, I think we raised around $600-$700. This year, our club has already stepped forward and donated out of their own pockets more than $1,000,” commented Rotary President Gregory Nyen.
Donations can also be made through the Marquette West Rotary Club Venmo account @MarquetteWestRotary.
