MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The first year of Marquette Mountain’s downhill mountain bike racing is coming to an end on Sunday.
The biweekly Gravity Series is designed for less experienced mountain bike riders to get a taste of what racing is like. Utilizing the trails system on the mountain, riders are able to partake in single lap races on the same track as larger races such as Marquette Trails Fest and the Fall Enduro. The environment is much more relaxed, riders are only timed on their downhill run which differs from the larger races.
This year the Gravity Series averaged 10-12 riders but organizers hope to expand that number for next season.
“We encourage people to come out and cheer on the guys who are racing, it’s Sunday at 1pm, we will have an overall prize for the season, this is our 8th event,” remarked Jeremiah Johnston, the Bike Park Manager at Marquette Mountain.
According to organizers a plan for mountain bike lessons is also in the works for next year.
