HARRIS, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Thursday, Escanaba’s Daily Press newspaper brought back its fan-favorite cooking show. For the first time, the event was held at the Island Resort & Casino in Harris.
The Island’s conventions executive chef and sous chef demonstrated how to prepare a variety of dishes. The recipes included ingredients from local food vendors Lanaville Garlic, Yooper Coop Eggs, Up Gourmet Mushroom, #9 Farms, Jasper’s Sugar Bush, and Dexter’s.
More than 250 guests learned about a temperature-based method of preparing food called sous vide cooking, as well as easy-to-make meals in a crock pot or Instant Pot.
“It’s just a reminder that there are great recipes and things for the home that you can do for ease,” said Stephen Gakstatter, food and beverage director for the Island Resort & Casino. “Everybody is cramped for time to do things—families, jobs. Crock pots and Instant Pots are great ways to cook really good comfort meals at home.”
