KINGSFORD, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Kingsford Centennial Celebration continues tonight, and a local event venue is serving the hungry artists and crew during sound checks.Venue 906 has a tent set up by the artists’ trailers and is serving three meals a day throughout the three-day festival. They are serving drummers, set crew, audio technicians, and pretty much anybody that has a hand in the performances!
The event coordinator said that includes some of the big-name acts, and she’s enjoyed getting to meet some of the stars.
“I’m really excited to meet Big and Rich, hopefully we get a chance to meet them. The artists are so busy when they’re back here, so if we get a chance to meet them, that’s cool, but Runaway June, I got to meet them today, they’re awesome,” commented Brittany Linsmeyer.
She added that she was unaware she had just met the granddaughter of the legendary John Wayne. “I did not know that!” she excitedly exclaimed. “That’s amazing, okay, that makes it even cooler,” she commented, adding that the band was notably “down-to-earth”. Venue 906, aside from volunteering to serve the star-studded band of cowgirls, other artists, and crew for the festival, has coordinated a wide array of events for locals and visitors to look for coming up, according to Linsmeyer.
Venue 906, who is hosting this afternoon’s Woodward Cruise & Car Show presented by “Just Cruizin Car Club,” is pleased to announce they will have new and expanded hours starting this week.
After the Kingsford Centennial wraps up, instead of only being open on Thursdays, they’ll now be open Tuesdays through Fridays, enabling them to host and cater even more exciting events. They will be adding sliders and beer tastings from Bell’s Brewery for Thursday nights with Chef Rob on the grill. Tomorrow from 9 AM to 2 PM, the venue will be open for brunch and mimosas.
Other upcoming events to look for from Venue 906 include an adult prom, and Linsmeyer announced they have a fundraiser going on currently, which they’ll be hosting an event for on Friday.
“We actually have a fundraiser for Marv, for Marvin the Martian and Emily Purdue going on this week. We’ll be hosting that on Friday,” she announced.
The centennial celebrations continue tonight at Lodal Park. Tonight’s headlining performance will be Ann Wilson from “Heart”. She takes the stage at 10 PM Central. The Blagec Bros. Rheem Heating and Cooling Stage will see performances from Polar Blues Band, Sons of Legends, The Descendants, Rockslide, and Oz.
