GLADSTONE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Delta County pickleball club is crowdfunding to bring new courts to Gladstone.
On Monday, Gladstone Area Pickleball launched the “Courts of Dreams” campaign. The goal is to raise enough money to build eight dedicated pickleball courts at the John & Melissa Besse Sports Park.
If the nonprofit group raises $50,000 by September 28, they will secure a matching grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Public Spaces Community Places program.
According to board of directors member Rich Beauvais, Gladstone Area Pickleball is asking local businesses and residents for support in building a more vibrant community.
“There’s a lot of things happening in the U.P. and there’s a lot of amenities that bring people to the U.P.,” Beauvais said. “We’re just trying to add one more. Having that here as a destination activity, I think, will really be beneficial for not just the residents of Delta County, but also for the businesses of Delta County.”

Gladstone Area Pickleball was formed two years ago. Last year, the group raised $20,000 to resurface the pickleball courts at Gladstone Middle School, where they currently play. If you are interested in joining Gladstone Area Pickleball, visit the group’s Facebook page.
