IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – This past weekend, the Upper Peninsula played host to the highly anticipated Michigan Bocce Championship Tournament. Bocce enthusiasts from all corners of the state gathered at the Ray Mariucci Bocce Complex in Iron Mountain’s City Park for a thrilling weekend of intense competition.

With three dozen teams vying for the prestigious first place prize, the Dickinson Area Bocce Association expressed their hopes that the tournament would inspire local youth to get involved in the sport. “We’ve got to get these young people in there and get them involved in playing and taking care of the courts and everything else. There’s a lot of work involved,” emphasized Michael Constantini, a board member of the Dickinson Area Bocce Association.

While the tournament marked a significant event in the bocce calendar, the season is far from over. The end-of-season tournament is scheduled to take place on Labor Day, and players as young as 10 years old will have the opportunity to showcase their skills in the competition.

Excitement filled the air as the results from the tournament were finally announced. In the single elimination round, B and B Tire secured the coveted first place position, followed closely by Da Vinci Bocce in second place. Iron River claimed the third spot, with Solberg’s/Greenleaf’s taking fourth place.

The success of the tournament was made possible by the generous contributions of local sponsors. Gundlach Champion, M.J. Electric, Solberg’s Greenleaf Sports Bar, Incredible Bank, INK Design & Apparel, B & B Tire, Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Bimbos Wine Press, and B & B Electric all generously sponsored the event, ensuring its smooth execution.

As the bocce season continues to captivate enthusiasts of all ages, the Michigan Bocce Championship Tournament proved to be a thrilling showcase of talent and camaraderie. With hopes of inspiring the younger generation to embrace the sport, bocce remains a beloved pastime in the Upper Peninsula.
