BOHEMIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – A young boy has died after drowning near an Ontonagon County beach Friday.
The Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to the Misery Bay boat launch Friday, July 28 just after 5 p.m. for a missing 7-year-old boy believed to have drowned near the boat launch.
Search and rescue crews and volunteers found the missing boy in the water and began CPR. The boy was taken to UP Health System- Portage where he was pronounced dead.
Out of respect to the family and for those not yet notified, the sheriff’s office is not releasing the boy’s name.
Helping on the scene were Superior Search and Rescue, Baraga Search and Rescue, Gogebic Search and Rescue, MSP (Calumet) K-9, Michigan DNR, U.S. Coast Guard, Houghton County Marine Patrol, Mercy Ambulance, numerous volunteers and Ontonagon County Victim Services.
