MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – This year’s Art on the Rocks show saw multiple different genres of art showing off canvas paintings, wood carvings, and glass-blown pieces as well.
One of the vendors, Glass by Barron, showcased their craft at this year’s show for the first time at least in Marquette. The artist, Heidi Barron, has been working on glass pieces for over 40 years and says the weaving of glass has always been fascinating to her, and also her customers.
“They cannot figure out how you weave glass so I explain to them how I cut them in strips and then I bend pieces of glass and then I string a straight piece through it then I fire it again in my kiln. If I want to shape it after I fire it flat then I’ll shape it into a vase or a little platter,” said Barron.
Barron commented that for those who might be interested in creating glass pieces are better off taking a course on it, because it may be difficult working with a kiln on our first time.
