The 43rd Annual Hiawatha Traditional Music Festival is looking for Volunteers

MWRQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Hiawatha Music Festival is beginning to set up down in Tourist Park and is looking for volunteers to help. The annual traditional music festival features two main stages, three workshop tents, and kids and teen areas. It all takes around 500 volunteers to put on the festival that takes over the park this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

This year, The Hiawatha Co-Op is adding a new tent to the set up. The Turtle tent will be an area set up away from the music and crowds of the mainstages for those with sensory processing issues to have a quiet and focused moment during the festival.

Positions are still available in set up, security and traffic during the weekend, and clean up after the event. Volunteers receive a free t-shirt for their first 3 hour shift, a refund for half their ticket price after the second, and a full refund after the third. Terri Blocklund, The Festival Director, says the volunteers who help with the event are what make the festival a cooperative experience.

“We come together, we work it together, and we all benefit from reducing the costs to each of us individually.” Blocklund said. “The total is more than the sum of the parts as they say”

For more information, and to sign up for a volunteer time slot, visit hiawathamusic.org/for-volunteers/

Tickets for the weekends events have closed for pre-order, but tickets, wrist bands, camping tags, and parking passes will be available at the gate starting on Friday morning at 9 am in the parking lot of The Kaufman Sports Complex.
