MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A new outdoor recreation innovation hub has the green light in Marquette. This afternoon, Marquette City Commission unanimously approved The Shophouse Park planned unit development.
The PUD will be located on River Park Circle and is expected to cost between 8 and 10 million dollars of grant funding. The Development’s plans include both long term and shot term housing, large meeting spaces, and a café. Shophouse Park’s founder, David Ollila, says the development is meant to connect The UP’s outdoor recreation to new and emerging recreation technology.
“We want to attract industry opportunity,” Ollila explained. “But maintain what we all appreciate so much and that is the natural landscape and our ability to get out on the trails and enjoy the nature that we have in The UP.”
Ollila says he hopes to break ground on the first phase of the development as soon as possible.
