Iron Mountain, Mich. (WZMQ) – In Dickinson County, Marshfield Medical Center Dickinson celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony for its new regional cancer care center. Oncology providers are excited about the improvements that the new facility will bring to the Dickinson County Hospital, including plans for medical research.
“It’s been a dream for us to be able to improve the physical facilities and provide the best comfort and the best place to receive treatment,” commented Medical Oncologist Dr. Gustavo Morel.
The concrete foundation will start in mid-July, and by August, the structural steel will go up on the new building. The construction crew intends to hand over the project to the hospital staff by the end of May next year.
Doctor Morel thinks that the new cancer care center will be unique, and better able to serve patient’s needs with closer interactions among staff, particularly between the oncology and radiology departments. The new building has been designed around keeping the oncology department, and the radiology department in the same area, and he anticipates that this will make communication much more fluid and efficient among his staff.
The construction crew anticipates having all the exterior work done on the hospital by November 1st, and the hospital staff is looking forward to the oncology care center’s official opening next fall.
