Anytime Fitness owners look to make wellness more accessible in Escanaba

ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – An Escanaba gym is working to make health and wellness more accessible for its community.

According to co-owners Jayne and Marvin Szukalowski, business is going strong at Anytime Fitness just two months after relocating from the Delta Plaza Mall to 322 North Lincoln Road, right across the street.

“Location is everything,” said Jayne. “There were a lot of concerns with the space–parking, like most businesses deal with–but it hasn’t really been a struggle. People are still able to get their workouts in!”

The Szukalowskis say their current location is the ideal spot for Anytime Fitness, as they can support and work alongside the other businesses in the plaza.

“We took a big look at who our partners were–Cricket Mobile, Exact Eyecare, Glo [Tanning Studio],” Jayne said. “These are local business owners, love our communities. They’re looking to improve people’s health, confidence, self-esteem.”

“It’s like a little community here; it’s a little business community,” said Marvin. “That’s the cool thing. To be a part of that, to work with them, and to hear their ideas.”
Jayne says it is part of their overall mission to provide more health resources in Delta County.

“Our big initiative this year is to work with more businesses to stipend their employees for preventative wellness, towards gym membership anywhere,” she said. “We have a handful of them in our community.”

In addition to offering membership promotions and training programs through Anytime Fitness, the owners are also looking to add a nutrition-focused business to the plaza in the near future.

“A big part of Anytime Fitness is the different platforms, and one of the platforms is nutrition and eating and healthy contributions to your body,” explained Marvin. “To be able to offer something different is an amazing thing, because we don’t have anything like that around.”

WZMQ 19 will more information on that upcoming project as it becomes available.
