GWINN, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Gwinn School Board had a special meeting tonight to accept the resignation of superintendent Brandon Bruce and begin the search for the district’s next leader.

On Sunday Brandon Bruce released a statement stating that effective on June 30th he would resign from his position as the Gwinn Area Community Schools Superintendent.

“An opportunity arose, that was presented that I could not turn down,” remarked Bruce.

The focus for the Gwinn Area Community Schools has turned now to finding a replacement for Bruce. At tonight’s special school board meeting it was decided that an interim superintendent will be named to allow the school board time to find the right candidate for the position.

The board appointed Brad Pfluger, the principal of Gwinn High School to the interim position.

“He’s privy to a lot of things going on in the district in the last few years and the strides we’ve taken to become one building one community,” said John Waldo the President of Gwinns School Board.

Bruce’s resignation comes just weeks after he helped to introduce the one community one school proposal. The $45 million project would unify all of Gwinns schools under one roof. it would also require a 30 year bond from the state.

When asked about the project Bruce said “It is a project that is the right move for this district and the generations of students that will be impacted by it.”

The school board is confident the project will continue to move forward on track.

“The reason we selected Mr.Pfluger is he’s been a part of that since day one he’s a big advocate,” said Waldo.

The district is set to submit an application to the state treasury by the end of this month which will be approved or denied by the end of July.

The school board is set to meet again on June 26th. At that meeting they will set salaries for the interim superintendent position and begin the search for the full time superintendent.
