PORTAGE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A U.P. man just might be the strongest in Michigan.
Jared Viazanko competed in the United States Powerlifting Association’s Wolverine State Open in Portage over the Easter weekend, where he broke three state records and tied another.
Viazanko competed in squats, bench, and deadlift, demolishing the state records in the 140 kilogram weight class.
The new state records for that weight class, set by Viazanko, are 705 pounds for squats, 490 pounds for bench press, and 705 pounds for deadlifts. That’s a grand total of 1,900 pounds, matching the overall state record.
His performance also qualified him for national championships in both Class 1 and Class 2 powerlifting, but he hasn’t quite made a decision yet if he’ll go to nationals.
