ISHPEMING, Mich. (WZMQ) – On the ballot next month, NICE Community Schools is up for an operating millage renewal for their general funds. The general fund goes towards things like teacher salaries, and club and extracurricular budgets.
Household taxes will not increase with the millage renewal as the millage isn’t set to increase from the past 10 years.
NICE Community Schools Superintendent Bryan DeAugustine says the millage renewal is crucial to funding busing and transportation for students which costs the school over a million dollars each year.
“Elections like this do usually see a very low turnout” DeAugustine says, “so we try to get the word out and we want people to go out and have their voices heard. This is something that is important to our schools and it’s up to our voters to decide the question.”
This millage renewal will be on the ballot in the coming election on Tuesday, May 2nd.
