Iron Mountain’s Ski Jump is a Favorite Among National and International Athletes

In Dickinson County, the Marshfield Clinic Health System’s 2023 Pine Mountain Continental Cup took flight yesterday, or at least some strong athletes did. Ski jumpers began training, and trials went until about 12:45 central time yesterday.

There are a total of 39 jumpers from 8 countries in the competition, including 9 forerunners. One of those forerunners is Olympian Mike Glasder, who won Ski jumping here in Iron Mountain in 2017, according to the announcer. According to TeamUSA.org, Glasder placed 9th for the Olympic team in PyeongChang, South Korea, and his most recent World Championship run placed him in 8th as a top finisher.

Scott McGuire announces for competitions across the U.S., including Park City, Utah, and Steamboat Springs, Colorado. McGuire announced throughout the day yesterday, and will continue to announce throughout the weekend.

“Well, this is a great event here in Iron Mountain, one of the best in the entire world with Ski Jumping. I’ve got to thank Marshfield Clinic Health System, Dickinson for their big support, and all the other sponsors. But it’s going to be one heck of a weekend, we have some of the best jumpers in the world. And it should be fantastic,” McGuire said about the event, as things were just getting started, and athletes were clicking on their ski boots.

McGuire, with a list of international athletes in front of him, confirmed what the Kiwanis Ski Club Corresponding Secretary Suzie Fox, and the club’s President, Nick Blagec have been saying about how special the Iron Mountain Ski Jump is to these athletes.

“From the first-time jumpers, there’s several of those, and to the veterans that have been here many times, they certainly love this place,” McGuire added.

The event organizers are still encouraging people to use the shuttle bus from Bay College West, if they can, in order to maximize parking availability for all visitors. The buses will run approximately every 20 minutes from the college to the north gate. The bus fare is $5 round-trip.

Visitors to the event can find out more detailed information about the event schedule for the competition at kiwanisskiclub.com
