MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Kids aged 5 to 17 filled the Kaufman Auditorium tonight to showcase their wide variety of talents. Doing everything from dancing to playing the piano.
The show featured a little bit of everything, and even though the contestants were on the younger side lots of them are seasoned pros when it comes to performing. Izzy Szczepanski, a dancer, says “I’ve performed a bunch before.”
The excitement of the competition led to some being inspired to show off their skills. Mason Degarmo says “it seemed like everyone else was doing it so I was like why not give it a shot.”
The show not only helped put the kids in the spotlight, it helped to showcase local organizations. Each contestant was able to highlight a group of their choosing. Larkin Wester, who was doing a jazz dance, says “I chose the beacon house because lots of people have family in the hospital and that’s a place to stay.”
Admission to the show was free, but contestants had to pay to audition. Money from auditions go directly to the hope for the future scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to a Marquette Senior High School graduate who has community focus and helps to better the local community. Janna Benedict, one of the event organizers, says “It’s just kind of a feel good for everyone in the community to highlight things around us they might be in need of.”
The talent show featured 16 Marquette area kids who all got the chance to have their time on stage.
